Hawaii looks different from above the storm.
A winter storm was rolling in off the Pacific when I found this vantage point on Oahu’s eastern coast — the Ko’olau mountains dropping sharply to a golden beach, the deep blue sea churning below, and Manana Island sitting quietly in the distance like it had seen a thousand storms before. From up here the storm looked like weather. From down there it felt like the end of the world.
